Mom Charged During Airport Security Check Trial

The trial for the Clarksville mom who was arrested for trying to stop federal agents from patting down her teen at the airport is scheduled to begin Monday.

Andrea Abbott was charged with disorderly conduct in July 2011 after the incident at Nashville International Airport during a security check.

Airport officials said Abbott became belligerent during a security pat-down of her 14-year old daughter.

Abbott’s attorney has argued she was just trying to protect her child because there was initially confusion over what kind of additional scans were necessary.

Prosecutors argue Abbott’s disruptive behavior created a security threat.

Abbott’s trial is set to begin at 9 a.m.

The charge is a class C misdemeanor, but her attorney has said they are fighting on principle.
