Car crashes into building and injures two

At least two people were injured after a car crashed into a building in the Whites Creek area.

Police said two cars were racing down Whites Creek Pike around 1 p.m. Witnesses said the Charger and Pontiac were speeding down Whites Creek Pike. Police confirmed shots were fired, but it’s unclear if one or both of the drivers were shooting. Bullet holes were found in the Pontiac but not in the Charger.

One car lost control and crashed into Precision Plumbing, located at the intersection with Old Hickory Boulevard.Both drivers fled the scene after the crash.

The driver of the Pontiac has been identified as 24-year-old Davon Hicks was arrested and was being questioned by police. The driver of the Charger 30-year-old Charles Cartmell IV was also arrested after he took off on foot. Police said after running from the crash, they believe Cartmell hid over a pound of marijuana in a culvert nearby. He will likely face felony charges.

Cartmell was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to be treated for injuries sustained as a result of the accident. Two employees,, Julia Tuttle, 38, and Danielle Krantz, 26, inside the building were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
