Concert at Sozo’s

Sozos 1Sozos

Sozo’s is a part of the Belmont Church Campus that is designated for Middle and High School Ministry, Mosaic.  During the summer, every other weekend, various bands are being showcased.  Last Saturday, July 21, Collin Brown, “Flying Colours”, and “Jamie, Joey and the Movement” were featured.  Collin opened the show, performing originals and covers.  “Flying Colours”, a band made up of students from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee,  consists of  twin brothers Jay (vocals, guitars, piano) and Rob Griffith (Vocals, bass, keyboards), and Taylor Hare (vocals, drums, cymbals).  Adding to the mix are brass players Collin Brown on trumpet, Noah Taggert on Sousaphone, and Brady Heyen on glockenspiel. Most of the band’s repertoire are originals based on excerpts from American and English literature.  “Flies in the Stream” from Ernest Hemingway’s novel “Island in the Stream” and “Stolen Childhood” from a Yeats poem are two examples of this.  The band has just completed the recording of their new album in Gellico, Tennessee, scheduled to be released sometime in September.  Past performances include Nashville coffee shop “Notable Blends” and Rocketown, 601 4th Ave. North, a venue for concerts which includes a coffee bar and skate park in the heart of Nashville, founded in 1994 by Christian artist Michael W. Smith to provide a positive alternative to negative influences affecting young people.   Flying Colours is available for concert and coffee shop venues in the future.  For booking information, visit the band’s Facebook page.

Jamie, Joey, and the Movement is a band founded in Nashville in August 2010. Its members, Jamie Carls, Joey Fitzpatrick, and Kerry Baines with Ben Parks, Kyle Hanson, Aspene Taylor, Bryana Ford and Donovan Jordan, winners of the Rocketown Battle of the Bands in 2011, combine pop, rap, hip-hop, r& b and meaningful lyrics for a unique and moving performance.  Past engagements include “Teens Playing For Teens”,” No Family Left Behind”, Rocketown, The Muse, Fair Trade Coffee House, and  Hard Rock Café in Nashville.  JJM has recently released a new album entitled “The Future Starts Yesterday”, available on iTunes now.
